Getting ahead....Number 2

In our previous blog post we wrote about someone from Colorado stealing our images to promote their photography and I'm happy to report that she has taken them down.

Today I share with you that it's happened again! But this time we are excited because our images have been appearing on the website of videographer extraorldinnare, Jeffrey Stoner. These are from Ann Marie and William's wedding in St. Augustine.

Those who faithfully read our blog know how much we admire Jeffrey and his work. His vision is brilliant and he's a true pioneer (not in the 'horse-n-carriage' sense) of modern wedding videography. It's amazing stuff, folks!!!

Each month Jeffrey features a different photographer's work on his website, and this month it's us! We're flattered that he chose us, even though it's a tough pill to swallow that be used us for the shortest month of the year. Rest assured, I'm not gonna let it get me down. Instead I'm gonna pick up my camera and practice, practice, practice. I'm gonna work harder than ever before in hopes that next year he'll use us for the longest month of the year.

Really, do yourself a favor and surf over to www.stonervideo.com. It's so cool.

Jeffrey...Paco's next weekend?

Getting ahead?

This evening one of our dear friends and fellow photographers emailed us a link to a photographer from Colorado who is using one of our photographs in her online advertisement at www.listphotographers.com. Her name is Photography by Allison and as far as I can remember, this is our first introduction.

Modern technology is amazing and it has opened up innumerable opportunities for business advancement and personal gain. But swiping images from the websites of others and "selling" them as yours is inappropriate on so many levels. Moreover, the fact that this individual calls herself a professional photographer is a disgrace to creatives everywhere.

Clearly, her moral compass could use an adjustment, but perhaps her artistic compass as well. At the very least, you'd think she would have kept the image a somewhat decent photograph by maintaining the horizontal crop rather than changing it to vertical and removing all reference points around the subject of the photograph. Oh well, at least the new vertical version has her name on it and not mine.

2009 WPPI Print Competition

Several folks have asked me to post the images that we entered into this year's WPPI print competition. Each year WPPI hosts their annual 16x20 Awards of Excellence print competition. With more than 2,400 print entries in a variety of categories, it is considered by many to be the premier photography competition among wedding and portrait photographers worldwide.

This year four of our prints received accolades of excellence.

Claudia and Jacob, married at the Ritz Carlton

Claudia and Jacob are just as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside. We were excited to photograph their wedding last weekend at the Ritz Carlton Grande Lakes in Orlando.

The fabulous event was coordinated by Heather Snively and her amazing team from Weddings Unique. I was also thrilled to have assisting me, Jim Cook and Van Tran.

Congratulations, Claudia and Jacob! We hope you're having fun in Bora Bora. We wish you only the best as you begin your new life together!

Erica and James' portrait session

Erica had been talking with us for quite a while about setting up a portrait session for she and James. When the day finally rolled around it was soooo cold. But they were troopers and they did fantastic! They really are one of the sweetest couples that we've met and I had a blast working with them.

Thanks, Erica and James, for sharing a little slice of life with me.

WPPI, here we come!

Each year one of our highlights is the WPPI convention in Las Vegas. Unfortunately I will be attending alone this year due to the arrival of baby Campbell, but we're still excited as it's a chance to reconnect with some great friends and fellow photographers, as well as be inspired by some of the best speakers/photographers in the business.

I will be arriving on Sunday morning and leaving on Tuesday around lunchtime to get back to my family. I'm excited that, unlike last year, this year I have a relatively light schedule. I'll only be speaking at a couple booths, which will give me a chance to spend time on the tradeshow floor and also check out some of the speakers.

6:30-8:30 pm Burrell Colour Imaging Mentors reception
8-??? Super Swanky Soiree (invite only)

12:30-1:30 pm SPEAKING at the Burrell Colour Imaging booth
2:30-3:30 pm SPEAKING at the GraphiStudio lounge
7:00 GraphiStudio speakers dinner
8-??? Becker's party (invite only)

8-12 Tradeshow perusing

Here's the line-up at the Burrell and Graphi booths.

And here are a couple of our other favorites that you MUST CHECK OUT: ShootQ and liveBooks!

Safe travels to everyone and I look forward to seeing you there!
