elevate seminar a success

Now that the dust has settled from our first three-day intensive seminar, we can look back and reflect on what was an exciting and fast few days.

On Sunday we had the opening reception at Curt and Stephanie's killer studio, Nu Visions in Photography. Arthur's did an awesome job with the catering! Then we went to 7-11 for Jen and Stephen's dinner...LOL!

On Monday, class began in the Presidential suite at the Lexington. We met for lunch at Central City Market, then we had the shoot-out with models at the EoInn. Everyone had a great time. We all headed over to Wildside for dinner.

Here are a few pics we did in preparation for the shoot-out.

Finally, Loren and Ryan, two of our fave clients, and also models for the shoot-out. Local knowledge made me assume that everyone would shoot in the tubs, capitalizing on the beautiful west-facing window light, white tiles, and white shower curtain soft boxes. "Use the tub, but be different," I kept saying to myself. Block out all the other light and create my own. Stretch myself and have the confidence to ask our clients to do something beyond their comfort zone to create an image that they didn't know they wanted, but upon seeing it they'd cherish forever. 10 minutes of planning, 5 minutes of shooting.

On Tuesday, the Bebbs rocked the house with a great presentation on urban shooting. Lisa Konecny delivered a fab vendor marketing presentation. We met back up with Curt and Steph and had lunch at The Globe. One more marketing presentation, then we met up with a couple models and did a bridal shoot at the Lexington, everywhere from the lobby, to the restaurant, to the suite, to the roof-top. We all headed over to Anthony's for dinner.

On Wednesday, the Bebbs kicked it off again with a great marketing presentation. Then we started the shoot-out review, which was very beneficial for everyone. So much learning takes place when we study and evaluate each other's images. Lunch was provided by the Lexington, before we wrapped up around 3.

It was such a pleasure to get to know everyone. Joy and I would like to thank you for your friendship and love. The bonds that we created together are so special and we're excited about the future for each one of you.

Finally, thanks so much to our friends Lisa Konecny, Curt Littlecott and Stephanie Rounds, Jen and Stephen Bebb, and our sponsors at GraphiStudio. It's wonderful having you all by our side.

Freezing in San Antonio

So who would've imagined that it would be freezing in San Antonio and half of the out-bound flights would be cancelled?

For the past two days I've been in San Antonio, Texas, with thousands of other photographers for Imaging USA. GraphiStudio, our album company, asked us to come and spend time with them at their booth, talking with other photographers about their products and sharing what a successful addition they've been to our business.

Here is a collection of images from the first few days. I'll be adding additional images within the next few days.

Graphi's amazing booth makes us proud and honored to be associated with such fine products and people.

GraphiStudio is proud to be sponsoring the Joe Buissink and Marcus Bell 11-city tour. The tour kicks off next week and concludes in LA on Feb 14. We'll be attending the session in Atlanta. Today was my first time meeting Marcus and he's such a fun guy...his work is pretty nice too. ;-)
For more information or to register for the tour, visit the Graphi website.

On Sunday evening Graphi hosted a round table Q&A at the Hilton. Maureen and Michelle from Graphi showed one of our slideshows to the group that gathered, then Bob Davis from LaStoria Photo gave a wonderful presentation.

...another image from the Graphi Roundtable.

At the Graphi Roundtable, Bob and Dawn talked about photographing Oprah's great car give-away a couple years ago. They surprised Oprah with a Graphi book from the show and of course she loved it. Since then they've had the opportunity to photograph several events with Oprah.

It was exciting for Graphi to be selected as the top album of choics among readers of Studio Photography magazine in 2006.

Last time I got a picture with Joe was in Vermont after his workshop. It was late at night and he was wearing his pajamas. So we figured it would be better to get another one that was less incriminating.

The crowd gathers to watch Joe's presentation at the Canon booth.

Garrett is off to Texas for PPA, (Professional Photographers of America) Imaging USA (one of the big conventions for photographers) representing the company we use for our primary wedding albums, GraphiStudio. They are also sponsoring our seminar, elevate coming up next week! They have also been so gracious to showcase our work for some of their sample albums for the tradeshows. Here are some pictures from the PhotoPlus Expo in New York of what the Graphi booth looks like, (pictures courtesy of GraphiStudio).

"Ring in the New Year" at Solutions Bridal

On Wednesday, January 10, we had the opportunity to photograph the Ring in the New Year soiree at Solutions Bridal Designer House in Winter Park, FL.

It was a wonderful evening with many of Central Florida's premier wedding vendors. The event was catered by Cuisiniers, Lindsey and Tom of Dragonfly Custom Designs provided the spectacular custom invitations, Park Promenade Jewelers provided bling for the event, and our fine friends Brian and Richard from Flourish Floral Productions did an outstanding job with the decor.

Brittany and Monique and the rest of the Solutions team were exceptional hostesses and everyone had a wonderful evening.

Models donned various gowns as they mingled with the guests.

The brilliant work of Flourish

Fresh gn photography float mount images now hang on the wall and in the dressing rooms at Solutions.

JoAnn and Brent (and Nicklaus)

What an outstanding way to end the year! On December 30, JoAnn and Brent were married at Casa Feliz in a beautiful sunset ceremony surrounded by their closest family and friends.

Every wedding is enjoyable, but this one was exceptionally so. The details and everything about the wedding were exquisite. The wedding was coordinated by Susie Weiss and her Wonderful Weddings team.

The food was provided by Arthur's Catering, and they always do a fantastic job! Who do you think we're turning to to provide the grub for our opening reception for elevate? That's right, Arthur's!

Anyhow, back to the wedding..

JoAnn and Brent and Nicklaus...because of the timing of the wedding and the setting sun, we planned the creative portrait session before the ceremony.

The details were great.

During the ceremony, all three of them said vows...it was beautiful.

During his vows to Brent, Nicklaus was overcome with emotion...and it carried over to everyone present. I was crying so hard I actually shot this one with my eyes closed.

Everyone lit candles at the conclusion of the ceremony.

The happy bride and groom.

It was such an honor to be a part of JoAnn and Brent's wedding. May God bless you three as you join together and become a wonderful family.
